Jim Roberts Wins Big at Route 66 Raceway

JMS sponsored NMRA Truck & Lightning class driver Jim Roberts (JR) piloted his way to his first 2013 win at the NMRA vs. NMCA World Championships in Joliet, IL.  Both JMS drivers had a great showing with JR’s grand-daughter Kennady Jones capturing multiple round wins in her JMS sponsored Ford Lightning.  Kennady went all the way to the semi-finals, a career first for her, where she lost a tough battle at the line against the SCT sponsored machine of Brad Gusler.  JR, was hoping to get a chance to race his grand-daughter Kennady in the finals, it was not to be.  JR won a tight final round race against Gusler, he came out with the victory in a close race to the stripe.  We want to give a big congrats to JR, Kennady, and the whole team for a big win amongst some stiff competition!

Recent 2007 Shelby GT500 Build with Whipple 3.4L

JMS recently upfitted this 2007 Shelby GT500 Mustang with a host of go-fast goodies.

Upgrades include: Whipple 3.4L NON-Crusher inlet @ 17psi, full aftermarket exhaust, Steeda CAI Kit, 3.73 FRPP gears, JMS 80# fuel injectors, and JMS PowerMAX FuelMAX.  As you can see in the video, this Shelby is a brutal beast that now makes 690 RWHP and 683ft/lbs. of torque at the rear wheel.

2014 GT500 Oval Throttle Body Install and Testing

We created this short video after the installation of the 2014 Shelby GT500 JMS 2.4″ Steel Supercharger Pulley.  These parts are offered individually or as a kit with a custom calibration. When combined together they offer an additional +82rwhp and +90ft-lbs to the wheels!

We love the Ford Racing throttle bodies for the Shelby GT500 Mustangs, and wanted to show how simple it is to add horsepower by increasing airflow. You can also see by the results that the throttle body upgrade makes easy big horsepower when combined with the additional three pounds of boost from the JMS 2.4″ pulley.  JMS also offers complete power packages for the newer Shelby and Mustang GT.

Recent Projects From The JMS Tech Center

2012 Shelby GT500

Just recently JMS built a 2012 Shelby GT500 that now produces a whopping 743 RWHP with 643 ft-lbs of torque, on pump gas!  This car came to us with a stock engine and we added a Whipple 4.0L Supercharger cranking out 20psi of boost.  We also installed a Whipple Cold Air Iinlet, 80# JMS Fuel Injectors, Dual JMS PowerMAX FuelMAX Voltage Boosters, JMS SparkMAX Ignition Booster, UPR H-Pipe, and JMS 93 octane street calibration.  This car is now on the road as a daily driver, and producing a lot more smiles per mile.

Blown Coyote Fox-body

JMS loves the fox-body Mustang and the Coyote 5.0L engine!  Needless to say, we’re proud of our newest fox creation.  This 1986 Mustang LX features a 5.0L Coyote engine swap with a Procharger P1sc putting out 9psi of boost and makes a conservative 606 RWHP.  The fox-body is also equipped with BBK long tube headers, a T-56 6-speed manual transmission feeding a 4.10 rear gear, and JMS 93 octane street calibration.

2004 Cobra w/ Whipple

JMS is an expert when it comes to the beloved “Terminator” and this 2004 SVT Cobra Mustang is another example of why we are the place to go for those in the know.  On this example, we installed a 2.9L Whipple blower, 60# JMS Injectors, SCT BA2600 mass air meter, twin 340LPH FSS fuel pumps, JMS PowerMAX FuelMAX Voltage Booster, Magnaflow mid-pipe and cat-back exhaust, and JMS 93 octane street calibration.  The end result – 657 RWHP and 604 ft-lbs of torque, and one really happy customer.

JMS Uses Kooks on 2011 Camaro And Sees Big Gains

JMS recently upfitted this 2011 Camaro SS Automatic with a Magnuson supercharger and saw some impressive gains.  We also decided to give the new Kooks exhaust system a try, and that proved to be very rewarding, especially compared to other Camaro systems we have used.  Modifications to this car included, a Magnacharger putting out a mild 6psi of boost, Kooks Long Tube Headers, Kooks X-pipe, Kooks cat-back, Roto Fab CAI, 52# injectors, and JMS 93 octane street calibration.  The end result was 484 RWHP and 485 ft-lbs of torque, but the big winner was Kooks whose exahaust made an astonishing 40 RWHP and 60 ft/lbs of torque more than any other system we have tested.

NMRA Drag Race Series Updates

2013 Opener • Bradenton Motorsports Park 

The season opener for NMRA competition was a good first outing for the revamped JMS Lightning piloted by Jim (JR) Roberts.  This was also the first race of young Kennady Jones career who’s Lightning truck is also sponsored by JMS. As luck would have it Jim and his grand-daughter Kennady Jones were paired in the first round of racing, where JR came out victorious.  In second round action, JR lost a close race at the stripe by just a few hundreths.

NMRA 2013 Event 2 • Atlanta Dragway

The second event of the NMRA Series was a complete washout. All of the final rounds were rescheduled for the following event in Maryland.  The JMS team unloaded at Budds Creek in Maryland and had good results.  Kennady unfortunately lost a close battle in the first round.  JR however was on a mission and took the JMS Lighting truck to the final round where he lost by only inches at the stripe.  All in all it was a good race, with Kennady Jones starting to get a good feel for her new race truck.

Round 3 was exciting and busy with the majority of racers making up for the rounds that were rained out in Atlanta, while also going competing in the round 3 event.  After a great showing in the Round 2 make-up event, the team was feeling strong.  As it would turn out the competition was stiff and both JR and Kennady went out in the first round of competition.  Those first round losses were bitter pills to swallow with both trucks losing at the stripe by extremely narrow margins.

Round 4 held last weekend started off strong, with Kennady proving to be the star of the team qualifying second overall.  Kennady also showed measurable improvement in her racing prowess.  JR also showed strong in qualifying, but as bad luck would have it, he suffered some injuries in the paddock when he was nearly hit by a competitor’s vehicle.  In a lot of pain, with two broken ribs and a broken ankle: JR fought to make it up to the line for the first round of racing.  He cut an excellent light, however the win was not to be.  Kennady Jones fought hard in the first round and lost another extremely close round 1.

JMS Chip & Performance recently released their Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Kit for SCT brand diesel truck tuners and monitors.  The new EGT Kits are complete pre-engineered solutions designed to plug and play with all SCT tuning devices, and require no additional modifications.

The JMS Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Kit (9617-B) works with all SCT brand tuners and utilizes the standard FireWire connector found on their devices.  It sends a 0-5 volt EGT signal directly to the SCT device and displays exhaust gas temperature readings on the monitor screen.

Also offered, is a generic EGT Kit (9617-A) that is compatible with other brands of tuners and monitors including; Edge/Superchips, Bully Dog, H&S, and most others that allow for the monitoring of external sensors.  This kit can be powered by either 5V or 12V, and can easily be spliced into the manufacturer’s external sensor monitoring cable.

JMS Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Kits feature a high-quality EGT probe with dual-ferrule compression fitting and common 1/8″ NPT thread.  The probe’s cable is RFI shielded with industry-standard type-K connector, and capable of withstanding temperatures as high as 1,650 degrees.

Also included is a signal conditioning device that converts the sensor’s output signal from millivolts to a common 0-5 volt output.  The Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Kit (9617-B) utilizes an attached cable assembly that will plug directly into any current SCT tuner and monitor.  The generic EGT Kit (9617-A) can be easily spliced into any common accessory cable.  Consumers can also purchase a separate complete EGT installation kit that includes the correct drill bit, NPT tap, and grease.

Exhaust Gas Temperature is a critical element in diesel performance, especially under towing conditions.  EGT readings are essential to eliminating engine failures that result from heat.  Temperature can vary widely depending upon the amount of load the engine is under, and the type of tuning used in the vehicle ECU.  Monitoring your engines exhaust temperature can tell you how safe your tuning is, in every type of driving condition, and it can alert you of potential heat issues.  An EGT reading is an absolute necessity on modified diesel engines.

The new JMS PowerMAX® SparkMAX Ignition System Voltage Booster is designed to be a complete solution for high ignition output, with as much as 80% increase in ignition voltage for Ford Mustang, Shelby GT500, Boss 302, SVT Cobra, and most other Ford vehicles.  If your Ford suffers from spark blow-out, ignition misfire at cruise, or other ignition related issues, this product is designed just for you.

In the February issue of JMS Chip & Performance News you will learn all about our new Mass Air Modifier, and gain access to a host of product resources.

JMS Chip & Performance is revolutionizing Ford mass air fuel injection systems with their Mass Air Modifier for 1988-2014 Ford vehicles including: Mustang, SVT Cobra, Boss 302, Shelby GT500, Focus, F150 and Lightning Trucks.  This simple and easy to use in-line MAF tuning device is designed to accurately scale and filter the mass air signal on all MAF equipped Ford cars, trucks and SUV’s.

Factory and aftermarket mass air meters have long been a source of frustration for tuners.  The JMS Mass Air Modifier is the only product that can filter the mass air signal, while also scaling the signal to extend the dynamic range of the sensor.  Cold air kits, camshafts, and the architecture of your air inlet on a turbo or supercharging system are just a few examples of what can cause turbulent airflow and a noisy mass air signal.

By filtering the MAF signal you can clean up a “noisy” signal area that may be causing a drivability issue.  The JMS Mass Air Modifier features a simple switch that allows you to choose between filtering the signal at idle or cruise.  Use the rotary switch to choose between 16 built-in levels of filtering, filter only as much as the signal needs to be cleaned.  Tuners will benefit greatly from this innovative concept, now they can quickly change the mass air signal in real-time on the dyno, and see instant results via basic OBD-II data logging.  You can also choose to filter the signal based on the MAF frequency, or you can filter based on another input from a 0-5 volt sensor.  With seven unique filter ranges you can fine tune the filter to your problem area.

Scaling the mass air meter is essentially extending the dynamic range of the sensor by modifying the curve of the signal to eliminate “pegging” or a saturated mass air flow signal, as result of larger air flow.  Tuners can use this feature to raise or lower the curve for improved performance, or fine-tune the signal for various size fuel injectors and mass air inlets.  Another added benefit is the ability to correct lean or rich fuel codes caused by basic aftermarket upgrades such as a cold air kit, and you can correct the issue without a laptop or OBD-II programmer while maintaining a warranty-friendly status at the local dealership.  To help support advanced tuning features, JMS offers a simple spreadsheet that provides mass air flow values for use with aftermarket custom tuning software, along with thorough instruction manuals and video how-to guides.  They also offer a version of the JMS Mass Air Modifier that’s primary purpose is to increase the mass air signal.  This unit is typically used by a tuner when a customer is using a MAF sensor for a high horsepower vehicle on a much lower horsepower vehicle.

The JMS Mass Air Modifier features advanced electronics housed in an aluminum case, a complete OEM-grade plug and play wiring harness using shielded cable, with additional cables for 0-5 volt signal input and optional on-board enable/disable switch.  Specific wiring harnesses have been designed around the Ford Mustang MAF Sensor ranging from 1988-2014.  Other Ford vehicles are supported based on the MAF sensor and connector type.  The device operating voltage range is 9.5-20 volts DC, and it is compatible with 12 or 16 volt DC power systems.  The complete system is designed to be used with any factory Ford or aftermarket mass air meter regardless of size, will support a wide range of fuel injectors, and is offered for both digital (p/n 4001) and analog (p/n 4002) mass air sensors.

Nathan Alleman is a serious STUD for doing what everyone else just talks about.  He drove his JMS Tuned 2001 Mustang GT 3000 miles round trip from Texas to Las Vegas.  Once in Vegas MM&FF strapped his steed to Shelby’s DynoJet 248C and Nathan spit out 821rwhp!!  It is GREAT to see someone actually drive to a dyno event and KICK ASS!  Many thanks to Nathan for flying a JMS windshield banner.

Nathan’s car is wicked cool.  One big reason for this car’s appeal is that there isn’t another 2v on the planet that can hang.  His reliable engine setup consists of a MMR 325″ stroker, ported TFS 2v Heads, Stage 3 camshafts and a Reichard Intake.  Air is forced into the engine via a ProCharger F1 @ 22psi combined with a 50hp hit of Nitrous. JMS provided the ECU Calibration.  Fred Brown built the bulletproof 4R70W transmission.   A strong overdrive transmission is a MUST have for any serious street car.  It is our opinion that Fred Brown builds the most reliable transmissions on the market.

In the MM&FF Article you can also read about Nathan running a 9.60@149mph when he arrived back in Houston.  Due to space requirements the article doesn’t mention the rest of the story.  At the track: He left the starting line with the wheels in the air….lifted, corrected, pedaled, finally got it straight and ran it out the back door and went 9.60@149mph.  This car will easily run in the high 8’s once he sorts out his suspension.

JMS – Twin Turbo 931rwhp Shelby Mustang March 2013 Issue of MM&FF Magazine

Pick up the March 2013 issue of MM&FF Magazine and check out the JMS Twin Turbo Shelby Mustang.    This vehicle is one of a kind with over 930rwhp on tap.  The ride height has been lowered and it rolls in style on custom wheels with a full aftermarket suspension.  Even though it makes BIG power on pump gas, drivability is really good. According to MM&FF Associate Editor Marc Christ:  “Drivability is better than stock”.  This car is at home in bumper to bumper traffic or you can wind it up for a 200+mph top end fun run (Note: obey all traffic laws).

JMS built a bulletproof 5.4L longblock and topped it with a JMS Custom Sheet Metal Intake.  Then they Custom Fabricated a one of a kind “TOP Mount” Twin 62mm Turbo system. Everything is easily accessible (including the valve covers) and heat is managed via generous Jet-Hot Coating and smart component placement. Extra fuel is supplied to the engine via a JMS PowerMAX FuelMAX Voltage Booster and flowed 80# injectors. The Twin 62mm Turbonetics Turbo’s are controlled via a custom mounted Turbo Smart gauge in the middle of the dashboard. With one click of the button the Turbos go from low boost (777rwhp) to Tire Frying HIGH Boost (931rwhp). At the high boost level the street tires will go up in smoke at most any speed!! This car has hundreds of special custom tweaks and must be seen in person to be appreciated. If you are ever in South Mississippi and a super clean unstriped White Shelby pulls up beside you….watch out…and after he dusts you off….ask to check out his super clean ride.
